The children's teeth and overall oral health were checked using modern 3D scanning technology. This imaging method is completely safe, painless and non-invasive. The output was a printed visualization of any problems for each participant along with recommendations for further care.
"We see working with schools as a key part of our efforts to bring prevention into everyday life. Our goal is for children to understand dental care as a normal part of their health, not as a solution to a problem," said Mgr. Paris Charalampidis, Ph.D., Marketing Director of AKESO Healthcare Holding.
Dental hygienists from AKESO POLICLINICS were present on site for the entire two days, not only providing the 3D scanning itself, but also engaged in individual consultations with each child. They clearly explained to everyone what the scanner monitors, why it is important to have healthy gums and properly growing teeth and how to take care of them ideally. The hygienists handed out printed results of the scan to the children and took the time to answer their inquisitive questions - whether it was about interdental brushes, sweets or braces.
"It's important for parents to know what's really going on in their children's mouths. Thanks to the 3D scanner, we were able to show the pupils specific problem areas in a matter of minutes - for example, orthodontic irregularities, areas that children don't brush well, or places where they are at risk of developing gingivitis. In addition, we explained to the children how to properly use dental aids such as interdental or single-bristle toothbrushes. We believe that if parents receive this information, they will find it easier to establish good oral hygiene habits at home, which have a long-term effect on dental health," added Mgr. Petra Křížová, DiS., dental hygiene expert from the dental department of AKESO POLIKLINIKY and lecturer at the Dental Clinic of the 3rd Faculty of Dentistry of Charles University in Prague.
The importance of orthodontic diagnostics in children was also highlighted by Sandra Hlinovská, MDDr., head of the orthodontic department of AKESO POLIKLINIKY, who professionally supervised the whole programme.
"Early orthodontic diagnosis is the key to healthy development of teeth and jaws. If we detect a problem in a child at the right time, we can prevent more difficult and lengthy treatment in the future. It's not just about aesthetics - misaligned teeth can also affect speech, breathing, digestion, posture, and even sleep. School events like this are an ideal opportunity to show children and parents that orthodontics can be part of routine preventive care - naturally and without stress."
The event met with a very positive response and the medical holding AKESO plans to implement a similar programme in other schools within Prague and the Central Bohemian Region.
