"Good oral hygiene starts from an early age. If children learn to brush their teeth properly and develop good habits, they can avoid many problems in adulthood. Parents should therefore supervise brushing at least until the child is 12 years old, and if they are unsure whether home brushing is sufficient, they can visit our office. We will be happy to advise them on everything. Adults and children should have a dental hygiene treatment every six months. If a child is not managing oral hygiene as well as they should, or if they have braces for example, the intervals should be even more frequent," said Mgr. Petra Křížová, DiS., an expert in dental hygiene from the dental department of AKESO POLIKLINIKY and a lecturer at the Dental Clinic of the 3rd Faculty of Dentistry of Charles University in Prague.
During the programme, the children tried out the correct technique of brushing their teeth, including the interdental spaces, and learned what tools are most suitable for oral care. The event was again attended by students of Dental Hygiene at the 3rd Faculty of Dentistry of Charles University, who advised the children and helped them with practical demonstrations. Each participant received a small reward for active participation, which motivated the children very much.
"Our municipality is regularly involved in this initiative because prevention is the key to a healthy lifestyle. Last year's event was a huge success and we are happy that this year we were able to reach and educate more children. Healthy teeth are not just an aesthetic issue, they have a major impact on overall health. Activities like this help children learn important habits and understand how to prevent tooth decay and other problems," said Ing. David Vodrážka, Mayor of Prague 13.
AKESO POLIKLINIKA has long supported prevention in its dental practices and offers a wide range of services - from dental hygiene to complex dental treatments including orthodontics and stoma surgery. World Oral Health Day is an important opportunity for the POLICY to spread awareness about proper dental care not only among children, but also among parents and the general public. This successful cooperation with the Prague 13 municipality proves that prevention and education in the field of oral hygiene makes sense and can significantly contribute to better health of children.
