"Our maternity ward boasts beautiful modern premises that underwent a complete reconstruction two years ago," says Leoš Teslík, MD, head of the gynaecology and obstetrics department. "A great advantage for mothers-to-be is the fact that it is not necessary to register to give birth. The only thing we recommend is to visit our outpatient clinic for pregnant women between the 36th and 37th week of pregnancy, which includes CTG monitoring."
Department structure
The labour ward is made up of four separate labour rooms and an operating theatre, all equipped with instrumentation to provide care for both the mother and the newborn. All delivery rooms have a positioning bed and a bed for newborn treatment, a private bathroom with toilet, television, wifi and facilities for the father.
"The mother is in the same room for the entire time from admission, to the birth itself, to transfer to the six-week ward. All the birthing boxes, their colours and the mandala motifs are designed to make the parents feel as calm and at ease as possible," adds the chief minister.

What extra options can we offer you?
Discussions for pregnant women
As part of the antenatal preparation, our Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department organises Pregnancy Talks. During the discussion, space is also given for your questions, which our midwives will be happy to answer. After the Pregnancy Talk, we will give you a tour of the delivery rooms and the six-week ward, provided there are rooms available at that time. However, you can always explore the maternity ward from the comfort of your own home with our virtual tour.
We respect the birth plan
Our primary concern is the care of the mother and baby, with the goal of ensuring a safe delivery and bringing a healthy baby into the world for you. We strive to respect your wishes as much as possible.
Ιnhalation pain control
Inhalation analgesia (paradise gas) is another option besides epidural analgesia to effectively help women from labor pain or discomfort when treating birth injuries. It is an effective and safe non-invasive analgesic that has a rapid onset and reversal of action.
Aromatherapy
We want to provide the most pleasant environment possible for mothers-to-be in our maternity ward at the Sun Gate. Our experienced midwives will help to induce pleasant feelings using aromatherapy, bath or massage oil. Appropriately chosen aromatherapy helps to induce feelings of relaxation, calming and upliftment. There are several types of aroma fragrances to choose from. Aromatherapy is prepared individually for the client and her delivery free of charge.
Aids for pain relief
We have a bath tub in one of the birthing rooms that can be used as a relaxation aid during the first part of labour. There are also other aids in each room such as a ball and mat to help relax the pelvic floor and relieve back pain. Parents are also encouraged to use the showers with massage jets.
Bonding
If the baby and mother are well after the birth, we encourage bonding, which aims to promote the bond between baby and parents.
Cord blood collection
For the collection of umbilical cord blood and umbilical cord tissue we cooperate with the Family Bank of Perinatal and Mesenchymal Cells, Ltd. (RBPMB) together with the Medical Centre Prague (MCP), Ltd, and placenta collection is carried out in cooperation with the National Centre for Tissues and Cells, Inc. (NCTB). Information about tissue cell donation can be obtained during the pregnancy talk.
