Digital dermatoscope detects risk moles quickly and reliably

Going for a summer sunbath by the sea or pool and haven't had your moles checked yet? Then it's high time! Regular checking of your moles at least once a year is a key factor in the early detection of melanoma - a malignant skin tumour.

Digital dermatoscopy is a fast and very reliable examination. It is a modern, globally recognised method. "With the help of a digital dermatoscope, we not only analyse moles and other pigment spots in great detail within a few minutes, but we can also monitor their changes in the long term," explains Athanasios Stefanis, M.D., PharmD, from the AKESO POLIKLINICS aesthetic dermatology clinic in Prague.

The dermatologist will painlessly take a digital dermatoscope image of all pigmented moles on the patient's body and transfer the image to a computer monitor, where it will be analysed. Thanks to a specially adapted illuminated magnifying glass, he can magnify the skin formations up to 50 times. After a careful analysis, he suggests either preventive monitoring or further treatment and stores the images for further monitoring.

Advantages of the digital dermatoscope compared to a conventional dermatoscope

  • Scan all moles and freckles at once, all over the body
  • speed of examination
  • evaluation using AI technology
  • retrofitting with a handheld dermatoscope
  • results immediately available.
  • saving results in the patient's chart and tracking changes at each follow-up visit

Melanoma is a malignant skin tumor that develops from pigment cells. It is the sixth most common cancer in our country and is the cause of up to 75 percent of all skin cancer-related deaths. 10,000 patients a year die from its effects. However, with early detection of melanoma and subsequent treatment, up to 91.5 per cent of these patients go on to live without limitations.

The digital dermatoscope examination is a covered procedure. The standard price in AKESO POLICLINICE is CZK 3,000 for a complete examination of all moles on the patient's entire body.

In support of International Melanoma Day, which is celebrated annually in May, a special price of CZK 2,200 per examination is valid for appointments made until the end of June 2024.

For many health insurance companies, it is possible to benefit from preventive programmes.
