MINITOM Kids: Magnetic resonance imaging without tears and fear

A scale model of an MRI and CT scan, interactive games and a plush patient. The MINITOM Kids educational device from Siemens Healthineers helps children to better understand what awaits them in a real examination. You can now find it on the ground floor of the AKESO POLICLINIC, in the waiting area in front of the MRI.

Magnetic resonance as a game

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans can be stressful for children - unfamiliar noises, tunnel space, the need to remain still.

MINITOM Kids is a scaled-down and interactive model of both machines, allowing children to try out the role of a small radiology assistant. In the tunnel, they "examine" a cuddly giraffe or panda and get to know what awaits them in a natural way. By playing, they naturally learn what awaits them in a real examination and the whole process ceases to be an unfamiliar or stressful experience for them.

"When a child tries out how the examination works in advance, fear turns into curiosity. And then we often manage everything without tears, stress and possible anaesthesia," says Mgr. Jiří Pichlík, DiS., Director of the AKESO POLICLINIC.

Technology with humanity

The model was lent free of charge by Siemens Healthineers. It is further proof that innovation in medicine does not only have to be about high-tech devices, but also about the approach to patients. Especially the little ones.

"We support solutions that combine technology with humanity. And MINITOM Kids is a beautiful example that even modern diagnostics can be understandable for the smallest ones," explains Ing. Tomáš Malacka, representative of Siemens Healthineers.

A strong partnership for everyday care

The cooperation between the AKESO medical holding company and Siemens Healthineers is not limited to educational models, but also includes high-end diagnostic equipment - for example, MRI and CT scanners, which serve adult and pediatric patients every day.

"The long-term cooperation with Siemens Healthineers is very valuable for us. It's not just about quality technology, but also an approach that makes sense in everyday clinical practice. We are sincerely grateful for this support," says Mgr. Jiří Pichlík, DiS., Director of AKESO POLICLINICS.

The partnership between the two companies is based on trust, expertise and a shared vision: to provide modern care with respect for the needs of each patient. In this spirit, MINITOM Kids in the environment of AKESO POLIKLINIKY serves as a bridge between the world of medicine and children's imagination - it helps children to get rid of their fears, brings relief to parents and facilitates the examination itself for medical staff. Because even a journey through a tunnel can be an adventure - if it is preceded by play.
