Short wait times for electromyography (EMG)

14. 7. 2026

Long wait times for EMG tests can delay both diagnosis and the start of treatment. At AKESO POLICLINIC, we offer patients short wait times for appointments, helping to speed up the diagnosis of neurological disorders.

What Is an EMG Test?

Electromyography (EMG) is a specialized neurological test that monitors the electrical activity of nerves and muscles. It helps physicians assess their functional status and detect any damage, thereby aiding in the diagnosis.  It involves two basic methods—nerve conduction studies (neurography) and needle EMG.

Waiting times for EMG tests at hospitals are typically several months. At AKESO POLICLINIC, we offer significantly shorter wait times. This allows for a faster diagnosis and the prompt initiation of necessary treatment.

Direct Referrals for EMG from Primary Care Physicians and Specialists

To schedule an EMG, all that is needed is a referral from a primary care physician, orthopedist, diabetologist, rheumatologist, outpatient surgeon, or physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist. A prior neurological examination is not required.

Direct referrals are possible for patients with suspected:

  • carpal tunnel syndrome,
  • ulnar nerve compression,
  • peripheral nerve damage (polyneuropathy).

EMG examinations at our facility are performed by:

MUDr. Jan Žák
Wednesday and Thursday: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., 12:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m.

MUDr. Markéta Bartoňová
Monday: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., 12:30 p.m.–4:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Based on the results of the examination, we will then recommend further diagnostic or treatment steps. This approach significantly shortens the time it takes to reach a diagnosis, speeds up the start of treatment, and simplifies patient care.
