"From November, we will expand by one more section. We've been in our current space for about a year and a half, opening last May. We only have one floor of approximately 1,000 square metres, which we have completely filled," explains the reason for the expansion, deputy director for operations and director of the polyclinic Jiří Pichlík. In October, AKESO POLIKLINIKA therefore leased another space in the opposite building, where a smaller rehabilitation clinic will be set up. It should thus grow by another seven disciplines.
The AKESO health holding company, which owns the polyclinic, has other hospitals in Beroun and Hořovice. "We opened in Prague last year because of the patients. We didn't want them to have to go all the way to Hořovice for care. For example, mothers who have given birth at the Hořovice maternity hospital no longer have to travel for follow-up care," said hospital spokeswoman Petra Horáková. In Prague, the polyclinic provides pre- and post-operative services, but the surgeries themselves do not take place here. It is more of an outpost.
Unique glasses help in the examination
A special feature of the polyclinic is the MRI machine. "We have a capacity of thirty-six patients per day. Since September, we have also opened on weekends. We go every day from quarter to eight in the morning until ten in the evening. The waiting time for us is in the order of weeks," Pichlik describes the news.
The doctors are assisted in their examinations by audio-visual glasses, which are unique in Prague and cost over CZK 1 million. "Such accessories are expensive. They have to be shielded from metals. But it will increase people's comfort during the examination. Patients with claustrophobia or children may not be comfortable being examined in a cramped space. With glasses, adults can watch nature documentaries and we have animated series for children. At the same time, they get headphones that can play music," says Pichlík.
The plan is to expand the surgeries
The new premises of the polyclinic should open as early as January next year. There will be two outpatient clinics for physiotherapists, including equipment such as lasers, magnetotherapy and shock waves, as well as outpatient clinics for psychiatry, surgery, dermatology, neurology and nutritional counselling and general medicine for adults.
Within a week, the clinic plans to start renovating the leased space. It should be partially operational in November, but patients will have to wait until January before it is fully utilised. The holding company has a five-year lease on both spaces, but is counting on an extension. Even though it is a private clinic, health care for patients is covered by health insurance.
In the future, the clinic plans to expand into another building. "For now, this is a project in its infancy. We recently bought a building that is about a three-minute drive away. In the end it will have ten thousand square meters. We will further develop the fields there that we no longer have room for in our current premises. The advantage is the underground garage, which has a capacity of up to three hundred spaces," concludes Pichlík, adding that there is still a lot of work to be done on the project and that the best-case scenario is that it will open within a few years.
